One of the electric prototypes Ford will be showing to the public at the 2011 Geneva Motor show will be this zero-emission Ford Transit Connect. A production version of this car will go on sale in UK and Europe later this year. Ford Transit Connect Electric is based on the Kombi version of the car and it’s a a pure electric-powered version of the award-winning, long-wheelbase Transit Connect light commercial vehicle.It has a cargo volume 3.8 m3 and a payload of 410kg. With its proprietary Force Drive system the Transit has 28kWh power to get to its top speed of 75 mph. But the more important factor with such cars is the range. The Transit Electric manages 130km/80 miles. Its lithium-ion battery pack is charged via a standard power outlet – an onboard converter then charges the battery pack. Fully charging the batteries using standard European 220/240-volt outlets takes up to 10 hours. We don’t generally like electric cars, but we fully support electrification of commercial vehicles. These are the vehicles that have to be in business the entire day. By making them electric-powered, a large amount of fuel will be saved for our sportscars and everybody will be happy!

As we had in the news a few days ago Spyker is in the middle of negotiations to sell the entire car business to a Coventry-based coachbuilder in order to focus on Saab. That didn’t stop the motorsport division from working on ambitious projects though. They just announced development of the C8 Aileron GT racing car fro 2012 season. Based on Spyker's new flagship C8 Aileron luxury supercar, the new GT racer will be designed and developed to the ACO's new GTE specifications. That’s all we know abut this good looking race car for now. We have to wait and see how that deal will go down with the Brits. Spyker has a rather long history in GT racing with C8 Laviolette GT2R racer. We hope the new owners boost the brand’s motorsport activities!

Ford will bring a range-topping version of the Australian-built Ranger pickup truck to the Geneva Motor Show. The Wildtrak model is packed with convenience features to complement its great capabilities. This tough and rugged but hi-tech pickup gets including Electronic Stability Program (ESP), satellite navigation and Bluetooth, voice control, and rear view camera. But it’s not like it’s gone all soft and cuddly! The car comes with three different cab body styles, 4×2 and 4×4 drive trains, two ride heights and up to four series choices to suit every pocket and market. It also offers best-in-class towing capacity of 3350 kg. The car gets two engines including the Dagenham-built, 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel delivers peak torque output of 375 Nm and power output of 150 PS, whilst a highly responsive and efficient new 3.2-litre 5-cylinder diesel produces a powerful 470 Nm of torque is power rated at 200PS. The car is equipped with Adaptive Automatic Mode, which adapts gear shifts according to driving style and Grade Control Logic, which automatically downshifts when driving downhill and the brake pedal is depressed. It i just one of the fuel-saving technologies in this car. The new Ranger is a very cool pickup truck, but it won’t go on sale in UK until November! | ||||||||||||||||||||||

The latest edition of Ford Ka for the British market will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show before it goes on sale across UK by the end of March. It’s called the Metal Ka priced from £8,545. The Metal Ka replaces the Tattoo version and sits alongside the Grand Prix and Digital models which add an extra layer of style and fun to Ka for customers who want to make a bolder statement. The car is based on the Zetec model and features a black and dark theme with glossy and metallic elements inside and out. The car can be had with 1.3-litre Duratorq TDCi and 1.2-litre Duratec engine. Both of them are equipped with Auto-Start-Stop as standard.

Ford will reveal the new B-MAX Concept at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. This car is literally production-ready and shows Ford’s new vision for the small car segment. It features innovative door formats. As seen in the picture below, the B-Max has no B-pillar so when the front doors and the twin rear sliding doors are all open, it offers huge convenience (clear aperture measuring over 1.5 metres wide) to load passengers or stuff! This innovative format – which has already been engineered for production – promises best-in-class access to the cabin, together with unmatched convenience and flexibility. The design of the car is based on Ford’s Kinetic language which means it’s both sporty and practical. It is a more compact alternative for the C-Max.
Based on Ford's global B-car platform – shared with the highly successful new Fiesta – the B-MAX is slightly more than four metres in length, the B-MAX is just 11 cm longer than the Fiesta five-door, and is 32 cm shorter than the new C-MAX. It also has a clever interior with 60/40 split rear seats and the front passenger seat to create an extensive flat load floor, the side access is particularly convenient to load bulky items such as flat-pack furniture or even a bicycle. To makes sure the lack of the B-Pillars won’t affect the car’s safety, the structure of both front and rear doors has been significantly strengthened – with ultra-high-strength Boron steel in key load-bearing areas – so that the door frames work together to absorb energy like a 'virtual B pillar'.
The cabin retains the dynamic, sporty feel of Ford's small-car interiors, but introduces the more premium character and decorative elements from the larger C-MAX. Driver controls are based on Ford's HMI (Human Machine Interface) approach, with a large six-inch touch screen display mounted in the centre of the upper IP, above the much-acclaimed mobile-phone style integrated control panel. As for the powertrain, it gets three-cylinder 1.0-litre Ford EcoBoost petrol engine equipped with the Ford Auto-Start-Stop system to become an ultra-low-CO2 powertrain. This unit combines direct fuel injection, turbocharging and twin independent variable cam timing to achieve significant reductions in fuel-consumption and CO2 emissions. Ford will show off their new Touring car based on the 2012 Focus at the Geneva Motor Show, ahead of the car’s first track appearance at Brands Hatch in the British Touring Car Championship. This car will start its motoracing career a few weeks after the production version goes on sale in UK and Europe. The car is developed by the Arena Motorsport. This car will be the new BTCC contender for Team Aon that has been a successful long-term competitor in the British Touring Car series with a version of the previous Focus ST model. But it won’t be limited to Britain. The car will also compete in various Touring series across the globe thanks to its standard S2000 specification. The new Team Aon Focus touring car is expected to compete in all 10 rounds of the 2011 British Touring Car Championship. For 2011 season with the car gets a turbocharged 2.0-litre Ford engine to meet current local regulations, rather than the 1.6-litre Ford EcoBoost engine other teams will use in Championships in line with international FIA regulations.

Hamann released details of a new version of their magnificent kit for Porsche Cayenne 2011 and named it Guardian for Geneva Motor Show. This is by far the coolest kit for Cayenne we’ve seen so far. The kit on this car is very busy, but unlike most of Hamann’s busy kits it’s not overwhelming. With a new muscular bonnet, a chin spoiler with new fog lights, and new grilles, the car looks fabulous at front, much better than the standard car. The car is wider too, thanks to the fender extensions linked together by new and taller side skirts. That lead us to the back where you see a new bumper with a unique diffuser and a pair of big exhausts right at the middle. Hamann Guardian also gets multispoke wheels in size 11.0Jx23 at the front axle and 12.0Jx23 at the rear finished in black. This kit can be ordered for all variants of the Cayenne 958 from diesel to Turbo models. Hamann also offers performance upgrades for each one, as well as suspension upgrade and better brakes. The car will be showcased at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

Dacia and parent company Renault confirmed their participation in 2011 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb at Colorado on June 26, with a specially prepared one-off Duster SUV. The racing Duster will use know-how from Renault motorpsort division and their experiences at Trophee Andros ice-racing series. Currently there’s not much info on the car available but some reports have said that it will pack 850 hp. Technical characteristics of the one-off Dacia Duster Pikes Peak will be announced in a few weeks.

Oberscheider Tuning GmbH – or O CT if you can’t read that – is an Austrian tuner who’s come up with a package for the Audi TT-RS. It’s called BLACK-AND-WHITE KNIGHT. They are not very good with names! As for the car and matters related to that though, they’re good. They’ve managed to raise the power form the standard 340 and 450 nm to 420 HP and 570 Nm. That’s achieved by using better higher performance stainless steel exhausts and air filters and intakes. The looks of the car remains pretty much standard, except for the 20-inch rims they’ve installed. These 5 twin-spoke alloys come in size 9×20-inch and weigh 13.8 kg each. A set of KW coilover suspension improves the handling of this little beast. There you go, one nice and value for money tuning package!

Audi has found a new way to market the new RS3 high performance hatchback by a free iPhone Game. Called the Asphalt Audi RS3, the app is available for free download and offers a test drive of the vehicle. Now, free stuff are usually terrible, but this application is made by GameLoft and those who are into mobile gaming know that they are the best name in business. This game is a special edition of the famous Asphalt series, so you could actually could have fun with it. In Asphalt Audi RS3, players can choose between two tracks (Bahamas and Tokyo), both of which feature thrilling graphics. The game will become available from March 3. After installing the program players can use all of the content of the app with an active Internet connection. The game is designed for the iPhone, but also functions on an iPad and iPod touch.

The global sales of the small Nissan Qashqai Crossover recently passed the one million mark. That is an incredible performance for such a car and shows how thirsty this segment really is. The best market for the Qashqai is China, but in Europe which is the biggest continent for this car’s sales, UK tops the list. Qashqai is currently produced in the Sunderland factory in the UK, the Kyushu factory in Japan, and in Dongfeng Nissan's Huadu Plant and Zhengzhou Nissan's No. 2 Plant in China. The UK is by far the biggest producer of Qashqai, with more than 800,000 of the 1,000,000 being made in Sunderland. Nissan Qashqai Crossover offers the same convenience, comfort, and economy of a normal sedan, but with high ride, practicality and driving joy of a small SUV. The Crossover is the trend that replaced Hatchback craze in most of Europe. Updated in March 2010 with refreshed design and improved fuel economy and CO2 emissions, it has been a mainstay of Nissan's European lineup for four consecutive years.

Branding are quite important for British people, sometimes even more important the the product itself! So it’s quite an achievement for Mercedes Benz to be named the UK’s UK’s No.1 Consumer Superbrand. The past five years the top spot was dominated by either Google or Microsoft, but this year Mercedes rises to the top. Seconds place goes to Rolex, followed by BBC in third. The annual Consumer Superbrands results follow a robust research process administered independently by The Centre for Brand Analysis, which analysed the views of over 2,000 members of the British public. The annual Consumer Superbrands survey, now in its 12th year, has become a key barometer of the strength of brands across a wide variety of sectors.

MKB’s package for Mercedes SLS is the exact opposite of Mansory’s we’ve just seen. They have tried to improve the car with the least changes. There’s just more power, new wheels, and there’s your lot! The power of the Merc’s V8 is upgraded from 570 to 638 hp and torque from 650 to 710Nm. That’s achieved using classic methods, ECU upgrade, sportier exhausts, and performance air filters. The extra umpf is translated into a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3,7 s, 0 to 200 km/h in 10,5, and a limited top speed of 330 km/h. The set of wheels MKB has provided for this car are Rad MKB Alpha III with Michelin Pilot Super Sport. They are 9,5×20 and 275/35 ZR 20 at front and 11,5×20 with 295/35 ZR20. We actually think it’s good they have not messed with the body of the SLS. It is just good enough and we wouldn’t change a single thing. Well, maybe just the doors!

Mansory has done the same terrible thing they did to the SLR Renovatio to the Mercedes SLS and call it Cormeum. Debut is planned at Geneva Motor Show. To create the Cormeum Mansory took a SLS and throw almost all of it away! The car is so different than the standard one would struggle to tell what make it is. One thing we can’t get our head around is why in the world the SLS has been given headlights from a Ferrari 599 GTB?! The body kit on this car is massive, but looks familiar for those who have seen the Renovatio principally because it has the same sort of nose. The body, all of it, is made of exposed carbon fiber which makes it look a bit silly to be honest, but it means the car is even lighter and therefore better to drive. It is 90 kg lighter than the base SLS. Round at the back the car loos quite good, except that big idiotic wing. It gets a nicely shaped bumper with a magnificent diffuser. Thanks to extensive modifications, the Cormeum extends by 66 millimetres at the front axle and impressive 84 millimetres at the rear axle.
MANSORY Cormeum uses exclusive forged wheels with central locking. They measure 9×20 inches with 265/30er tyres at the front and 11×21 inches with 295/25er tyres at the rear axle. Tires have been provided by Michelin. They’ve also used new dampers and springs that drop the car by 20 mm. As for the engine the SLS Cormeum gets revised electronics, sports air filter and a sports exhaust system made of stainless steel. The results of these tweaks are 660 hp / 485 kW. t that doesn’t float your boat, Mansory already has an 800 hp package in the works. For the interior Mansory provides very fine and soft leather, exquisite materials like aluminum and carbon fiber inserts. Mercifully they only make 15 units of this hideous car! Honestly, why would they do such a thing to an otherwise brilliant car?!

This is Hamann’s finest creation for this year’s Geneva Motor Show based on Mercedes SLS AMG. They call it the Hawk and it’s the kind of car the Arabs would kill for with its Everose Gold paint job! The modified body of the SLS Hawk features a full body it consisting of a new front apron with a spoiler lip, a new carbon fiber bonnet that’s complemented by a carbon air scoop on the roof, a carbon trunk lid, and an absolutely massive rear spoiler.Not to mention there’s a new diffuser at the back as well. The new fender extensions and side skirts also play a major role in giving the car a more in-your-face presence! As always you get a decent set of wheels, this time single-part, especially light forged wheels “Unique Forged Anodized” in 21 inches. These are fitted in 9Jx21 with tyres measuring 245/30 ZR 21 at the front and 12.5Jx21 with tyres measuring 345/25 ZR 21 at the rear axle. They have Hamann’s lowered springs – 30mm – above them. Then there’s the engine. Hamann has managed to another 70 or so horsepower in that magnificent 6.3 liter AMG V8 engine of the Merc. It now has 636 hp / 468 kW and a maximum torque of 680 Nm at 4,850 r.p.m. That means 0 to 100 km/h in done in just 3.6 seconds an the top speed is around 320 km/h. Last but not least, Hamann offers a VIP treatment for the interior of the SLS with leather and ultra-suede, applications and embroideries replace the serial interior. HAMANN additionally adorns the air inlets, door sill protectors and centre console with checkered flag carbon. Black anodized aluminium pedals render a comfortable grip.
