Carlsson C25 Royale

Carlsson C25 Royale carlsson c25 royale 1

Mercedes tuner Carlsson revealed an improved version of their C25 supercar at the Geneva Motor Show which is even more exclusive than the first iteration of the car.

The problem with the C25 is that it is basically a half a million euro Mercedes SL65 with a bit more power and an unfathomable ugly face! With that money you can buy much better – real – supercars. It is one of the most pointless cars we’ve ever seen. That said, they will have no problem finding buyers for the 25 units of this car they’ve planned to build, because people like exclusivity.

Carlsson C25 Royale carlsson c25 royale 2

One of the good things about the C25 is the engine. It is based on the V12 biturbo of the SL65 tuned to deliver 753 horsepower (554 kW) and 1320 Nm of maximum torque which had to be limited to 1150 Nm or the gearbox would explode!

The C25 is 180 kg lighter than the SL65 so it goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and can reach a top speed of 352 km/h.

Markus Schuster, Managing Director at Carlsson: "There are more than enough super cars around that can only be driven safely on a racing track. We deliberately wanted to develop a car that is exclusive on the one hand but can still be used for the daily commute to the office. A Super GT which can go from 0 to 100 kph in just 3.7 seconds while at the same time offering the utmost in ride comfort."

Mansory Ferrari 458 Italia Siracusa

Mansory Ferrari 458 Italia Siracusa MANSORY SIRACUSA 1

At the 2011 Geneva Motor Show Mansory to be honest made a fool of himself with the SLS Cormuem. But then they redeemed themselves with this Ferrari 458 Italia Siracusa.

The car appears to be inspired by Ferrari 599 Stallone and features a two-tone paint job and revamped design. Mansory apparently has messed with the 458′s spot on aerodynamics as they’ve removed those deformable things the car has in the front bumper and also replaced the rear diffuser.

The new side skirts of the car look very good, but we’re not sure about the new carbon fiber vents on the air vents, rear window, and the rear spoiler itself. Most of the black parts on this car are actually made of carbon fiber. That results in a weight saving of 70 kg compared to the standard 458.

The interior is a sea of carbon fiber but also benefits from suede and leather. We like the yellow garnish on the dash, seats and mats. The weave of those carbon fiber parts may become overwhelming to look at after a while!

Mansory has also tweaked the 458′s engine and increased the power from 560 to 590 hp and 560Nm of torque which results in a 0-100km/h time of 3.2 seocnds and top speed of 330 km/h. They also provide 9×20 and 11×21-inch wheels with central lock feature and Michelin tires.

Armoured Maybach Guard

Posted: 02 Mar 2011 06:37 AM PST

Armoured Maybach Guard maybach guard1

Maybach is more popular between rappers than presidents and heads of state. So the idea of an armoured Maybach is relevant because these days rappers are more likely to get shot than presidents.

The Maybach Guard is just the car if you are a rich person that gets held at gunpoint a lot!

Based on the full-on 62 model, the Maybach Guard is built from the ground up as a special model bespoke to its customer. Before the car gets all the luxury garnish on it, experts of armoured vehicles take it away and using high-tech materials and special engineering methods make it an uncanny bulletproof car. Then it gets back to the Sindelfingen production plan to dress up as a normal Maybach.

That is the whole point of it, discreteness. Even Maybach experts shouldn’t be able to tell the armoured Guard from the normal model Rick Ross rides in. Or maybe he’s car is a Guard too, we don’t know!

The astonishing bit is that despite all the extra protection and stuff, the Guard is only 406 kg heavier than the Standard Maybach 62 which is brilliant for a car of this size and class.

The base of the Maybach Guard was originally designed for the extra weight of the protective armouring so that no changes of drive train, suspensions or breaking-system are necessary. The car handles effortlessly at all times. Further contributions are provided by the electronic control systems such as ESP®, ABS, ASR Brake Assist BAS and AIRMATIC DC. Nor do you have to make any compromises when it comes to performance either: the Maybach Guard accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds and is the only armoured car in the world able to reach a top speed of 250 km/h.

Here’s more details on the Maybach Guard in case you are thinking of ordering one. The pricing is unknown really, because it is a bespoke car.

Upmost care in safety and individualization too

The bodyshell is built in the same production plant in Sindelfingen where all the other Maybach models are built. After that the special protective features have been integrated, a Maybach Guard moves out onto the standard assembly room. From here our expert craftsmen dedicate their efforts to guarantee the upmost care in the assembly and individualization process, in order to ensure our costumers the same, incomparable levels of craftsmanship that the Maybach name represents.

Certified protection

As used in the construction of special vehicles and bulletproof clothing, the armour is made of highly specialized steel and high-tech Kevlar. Thanks to its lightness, while still ensuring a very high protection, the armour raises the total weight of the vehicle by only 406 kg. In order to guarantee effectiveness, the armour is certified by independent state bodies which carry out on-the-spot quality control checks. As the certification can be revoked with the detection of the slightest weakness, rigorously high levels of perfection are continuously maintained.

Luxurious handcrafted details

Another thing you don't need to fear in a Maybach Guard is your freedom of choice. As always, the name Maybach stands for unmatched individuality: exotic wood can be combined with a wide range of sumptuous leathers.

Tailored to your desires

Our specialists are honoured to be at your disposition and help you realize the Maybach Guard as you desire. Perhaps you want a monogram made from your initials? Or champagne flutes made of sterling silver? Whatever you desire, your Personal Liaison Manager, the Maybach designers and engineers will help you configure your Maybach Guard just the way you want it.

Hyundai i40 Pictures and Details Hyundai i40 1

Following the world debut of Hyundai i40 at Geenva, the Korean company released full details and pictures of this sporty and elegant estate. Designed specifically for Europe, the i40 is developed by the firm’s R&D headquarters in Russelsheim, Germany.

The i40 qualifies as a D-segment vehicle, but it comes with so many new features that you could say it is a whole new niche!

Like all new Hyundai cars, the design of the i40 is based on the fluidic sculpture language which means it’s all full of nice curves and dramatic lines that create an exciting design without being overwhelming or too shouty. It looks ordinary, but it’s far from boring.

The i40 is also packed with all the new stuff you could imagine in a car made form 2011 in terms of safety, convenience and power-trains. The practical estate will launch with a 2.0 liter GDI engine with 177 PD that uses only 6.7 liter of fuel every 100 km. But if you want economy you should get the diesel version that manages an astonishing 4.3 l/100km! Mind you at 115 PS, that version would barley move.

Hyundai is expecting the European D-segment to grow by 12.6% over the next five years, with industry experts forecasting total sales volumes of 890.000 units across the continent by 2016. With a bold sales target of 60.000 units for the i40's first full year of sales in 2012, Hyundai is looking to challenge the Toyota Avensis for a top-five place in the overall D-segment sales chart.

Check out complete details of the Hyundai i40 in the press release below. Pricing will be announced closer to launch later this year.

'New Thinking. New Posiibilities.'

"The all-new i40 perfectly captures the spirit of Hyundai's new brand slogan 'New Thinking. New Possibilities.'" said Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe.  "The i40 is a sign of how far Hyundai has come in recent years, and truly embodies what we mean when we talk about being a 'modern premium' brand.

"It could be argued that i40 is our most significant new car for several years.  We're extremely excited about bringing it to market, and we think it will be a hit in Europe's notoriously competitive D-segment. By launching the car in wagon form first, a body style responsible for over 50% of sales in this segment, we're looking to make an immediate impression with European motorists," Rushforth added.

Hyundai i40 Pictures and Details Hyundai i40 3

Design Inspiration

The original inspiration for the i40 can be traced back to the Genus concept car. Genus represented Hyundai's vision in Europe for a unique alternative within the D-segment, combining practicality with emotional design. Genus helped to forge a new identity for the company, with the debut of the hexagonal grill, a feature which has since become Hyundai's brand face in Europe.

"We developed the Genus concept and matured it into the i40, our vision of a truly unique European car," said Thomas Buerkle, Chief Designer at Hyundai's European Technical Center.

"The design represents an evolution of Hyundai's unique form language, 'fluidic sculpture', creating a sleek, elegant wagon with uncompromised comfort and load capacity. While the exterior of i40 stands out for its fluidic form and distinctive graphic elements, the interior design focuses on the sculptural and ergonomically optimized integration of its functions," concluded Buerkle.

Hyundai i40 Pictures and Details Hyundai i40 4

The sporty design of the i40 does not impact negatively on levels of interior comfort. The wheelbase is 2.77 metres and the car delivers best-in-class dimensions for front head (1025mm), shoulder (1455mm), and leg (1170mm) room. This impressive roominess promises to give all occupants spending long periods of the time in i40 the most comfortable D-segment ride available.

Cargo capacity in the i40 more than holds its own among competitors in the class, with figures ranging from 553 litres with the rear seats occupied up to 1719 litres with the rear seats folded down.

Hyundai i40 Pictures and Details Hyundai i40 5

Powertrains

The all-new i40 will be available with a choice of four Euro V-compliant engines: two petrol and two diesel. These units cover a power spread of 115 ps to 177 ps, with torque delivery extended across a wide engine-speed range, making the i40 an enjoyable car to drive around town or on the motorway. Manual and automatic transmissions will also be offered.

In a segment where diesel models represent over 75% of total sales, Hyundai is anticipating that the U-II 1.7-litre diesel unit developing 136 ps will be the most popular engine among both private and fleet buyers.

Hyundai's all new four-cylinder 2-litre GDI engine, called 'Nu', makes its debut in the i40, promising deliver higher torque (for enhanced driveability), improved fuel economy and reduced emissions, plus undiminished durability and excellent NVH characteristics – similar to the multi-point fuel injected engine.

Hyundai i40 Pictures and Details Hyundai i40 6

Equipped with GDI (gasoline direct injection) this 1,999 cc unit generates 177 ps and 213 Nm of torque which ensures that the i40 boasts best-in-class performance and fuel economy. An i40 with this engine and a six-speed manual gearbox will accelerate to 130 kph (81 mph) in just 15.7 seconds, record fuel economy figures of 6.7 l/100 km (combined cycle) and achieve a CO2 rating of just 156 g/km.

Overall, Hyundai is expecting a 65/35% spread between diesel and gasoline-powered i40 sales.

Eco credentials

In terms of environmental performance, the all-new i40 will feature the latest technologies developed under Hyundai's Blue Drive™ eco-program, including Integrated Stop & Go (ISG), low rolling-resistance tyres and an alternator management system (AMS).

When combined with the U-II 1.7-litre diesel engine developing 115 ps, the inclusion of these Blue Drive features means that CO2 emissions and fuel economy register at a staggeringly low 113 g/km and 4.3 l/100km, respectively, making the i40 the most environmentally-friendly model in its segment.

Hyundai has continuously highlighted its desire to lead the way along the road to long-term environmental sustainability for the auto industry, and i40 furthers the company's commitment to delivering models with class-leading eco-performance.

Hyundai i40 Pictures and Details Hyundai i40 7

Reduced NVH

A new acoustic package was developed for Hyundai's diesel powered i40. NVH performance, especially the exterior drive-by noise, is dramatically improved by using experimental methods such as Reciprocal Holography (to visualize noise reduction levels at certain frequency) and ADNA (Advanced Diagnostic Network Algorithm) to rank noise sources in the order of their identified transfer paths.

The NVH package aims to provide a quieter and more comfortable driving environment for diesel vehicles. The new acoustic package in i40 utilizes materials such as air permeable carpet, sound absorbing layers for engine-room encapsulation, and textile wheel-arch liners to absorb noise sources from engine, road, and muffler, providing a 20% improvement in interior noise levels (on Articulation Index), and a 3dB reduction of outside engine noise when idling.

Hyundai i40 Pictures and Details Hyundai i40 8

High-tech features

By offering an extensive standard specification with numerous high-tech features, usually available only as options in competitors' models, the high level of equipment in the i40 promises to be one of its key attractions to potential buyers.

High-tech features include smart-parking assist and lane-keeping assist systems, as well as connectivity items like Bluetooth® with voice recognition and full map navigation with rear view camera. In terms of comfort and convenience, the i40 will be available with an electric parking brake, front air ventilation seats, heated and reclining rear seats, as well as new features for the segment like auto-defog system, and a heated steering wheel.

Advanced lighting innovations, such as standard day-time running lights with Xenon headlamps or an LCD supervision instrument cluster, will further strengthen the i40's position as the lead model in Hyundai's line-up and the European D-segment.

Safety

The i40 uses the latest active and passive safety technologies to ensure maximum protection for its occupants. Active safety features, fitted as standard in several countries, include ESP (Electronic Stability Program), ABS (anti-lock braking system), Hill Start Assist Control (to prevent roll-back when starting on an incline), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), Brake Assist System and Emergency Stop Signal.

In terms of passive safety, every i40 on the road in Europe will be fitted with up to nine airbags – front, side and curtain, with driver knee airbag available as standard on all models. Hyundai anticipates the i40 to continue the company's excellent safety record and attain the maximum 5-star result under Euro NCAP's impact assessment.

Senior Vice President Rushforth added, "The i40 perfectly combines the four elements that have become core Hyundai values: practicality, performance, efficiency, and styling. Our designers and engineers have produced a car that encapsulates what European motorists look for in a D-segment vehicle.

"We have bold ambitions for Hyundai in Europe, and the new i40 will provide the momentum we need to achieve our goals in 2011 and beyond," he concluded.

Suzuki Swift S Concept suzuki swift s concept 1

This amazing Suzuki Swift S-Concept unveiled at the Geneva Motor show previews the next sportier Swift. Mind you, don’t expect the production version of the car to be just as loud and shouty!

Subaru says this is just a study concept and therefore there’s no need for us to no more about it! Honestly their press release for this car is like three lines long. The car has a normal 1.6 liter engine as the production Swift.

Based on what we see from the picture of the S-concept, it features a new front apron with coll styling touches such as the fog lights garnish, side skirts with air intake in them, an unmissable big rear wing, a new rear bumper with a diffuser thingy and dual exhaust pipes. the car also uses 18-inch wheels and a unique interior treatment with two-tone Recaro seats, piano black trims, aluminum pedals and a sport steering wheel.

Even if half of these features make it into the next production Swift, that’s be cool.

2012 Kia Rio Specs 2012 rio 1

We just looked at Kia’s new A-segment contender, the new Picanto. Now moving to the B-segment they have the all-new Kia Rio that also made its big debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

The improvement on this car is very remarkable since thoroughly enhanced in every aspect. It features a funky new design that’s far more interesting than the previous model and also features an upgraded lineup of incredibly clean power-trains starting at just 85 g/km.

Available as 5-door and 3-door bodystyles, the new Rio is longer by 20 mm, wider by 25 mm, and lower by -15 mm and features a wheelbase extended by 70 mm to 2,570 mm. So despite its size it is actually quite roomy inside.  The car also comes with an all-new interior featuring 'three cylinder' instrument cluster, precise instrument graphics and clear functionality. The quality of used materials are also on the par with premium cars.

2012 Kia Rio Specs 2012 rio 2

Optional features available on new Rio cars for the UK market will include smart-key entry system, RDS radio CD player with MP3 compatibility plus AUX, iPod and USB connections, Bluetooth handsfree (with voice recognition available from December 2011), climate-control air-conditioning, heated front seats and LED daytime running lights.

As for the safety, this 5-star car gets electronic stability control, six airbags and 'active' front seat head restraints, to protect against whiplash injury in a rear impact. A new system called Emergency Stop Signal will be available for additional safety.  To alert following drivers that the car is slowing rapidly, sensors detect when the driver is braking suddenly and hard, and then automatically flash the brake lights three times.

2012 Kia Rio Specs 2012 rio 3

A range of three- and four-cylinder engines – with a 70-to-109 ps power range – and a CO2 base-line rating from just 85 g/km, plus fuel consumption as high as 88.3 mpg power the 2012 Kia Rio. It will be available with two versions of Kia's 'U2' power unit – both fitted with 16-valves and a Waste Gate Turbo.  The 1.4-litre generates 90 ps and 216 Nm of torque, while the 1.1-litre produces 70 ps and 162 Nm.  Both engines deliver maximum torque from just 1,750 rpm.

You may also choose one of the petrol 1.4-litre Gamma or 1.25-litre Kappa engines. With maximum output of 109 ps and peak torque of 136 Nm, the Gamma engine powers the fastest Rio – accelerating to 100 kph (62 mph) in 11.5 seconds and reaching a top speed of 181 kph (112 mph). The Kappa offers 85 ps and 117.8 Nm of torque, while achieving fuel economy of 58.8 mpg.

2012 Kia Picanto Specs 2012 picanto 1

The all-new Kia Picanto made its global premiere at the Geneva Motor Show and wowed the crowd with the qualities it offers as an A-segment vehicle.

The totally redesigned Picanto might look a bit like a simpleton, but underneath its small body it is actually quite a car. It will be available as 5-door and 3-door body styles and a range of very clean engines. It even has a 90 g/km CO2 version with 67.3 mpg which is exempted from tax and congestion charges.

The new Kappa engine for this car will be available in three versions. A four-cylinder, 1,248 cc engine that generates 85 ps and 121 Nm of torque tops the line-up.  Two three-cylinder, 998 cc units will present customers with a choice of petrol or Bi-fuel technologies (LPG + petrol) – Bi-fuel is available in selected countries but not the UK.  The petrol engine produces 69 ps and 95 Nm of torque.  The Bi-fuel unit delivers 82 ps and 94 Nm of torque.

Picanto line-up will have a CO2 rating of 99 to 125 g/km.  Fuel economy will range from 67.3 to 42.2 mpg, contributing to lower running costs.

2012 Picanto is also significantly improved in terms of ride and handling thanks to the new MacPherson strut front suspension, and Coupled Torsion Beam Axle at the rear.  The Picanto's all-disc braking system, which is standard on all models fitted with Electronic Stability Control, is backed up with standard ABS anti-lock, electronic brake force distribution and emergency 'brake assist' systems.

A comprehensive list of safety features including up to six airbags, electronic stability control and hill-start assist plus a stiff and well engineered body shell make sure the car will get the full five-star safety rating. It is also good for pedestrians with a new cross-member below the front bumper, creating a deformable cowling ahead of the windscreen and off-setting the hood striker by 50 mm from the car's centre line.

Peugeot 908 HYBRID4

Peugeot 908 HYBRID4 908 HYBRID4 1

Peugeot has already showed us their new 908 diesel Le Mans racer. But at the Geneva Motor Show they went a step further and revealed a diesel-hybrid version of that car.

The Peugeot 908 HYBRID4 is by the looks of things challenging the mighty Porsche 918 RSR. These cars can very well form the future of motorsport, in which the environmental strategy is more important than winning!

The HYBRID4 technology in this car tries to use the otherwise wasted kinetic energy of braking to help with the acceleration, thus making the car more fuel efficient. The system employed by the Peugeot 908 HYbrid4 recovers and stores the kinetic energy generated under braking, before feeding it back into the driveline during acceleration. Using this recovered energy in this way significantly improves the efficiency of the power-train. It will also be possible to run in electric only mode along the pit-lane and it is this mode that will be used for the car’s homologation.

It is like an overboost function that for a short period of time provides boost of 60kW (80hp). Except there is no button to activate it. In other words it’s done automatically when the drivers floor the throttle as he comes out of a corner.
