RUF Rt 12 R Porsche 911

Posted: 05 Mar 2011 08:46 AM PST

RUF Rt 12 R Porsche 911 ruf rt 12r1

The legendary Porsche tuner RUF, who’s been suspiciously quiet recently, showed up at the 2011 Geneva International Motorshow with the new Rt 12 R Porsche 911. Want some figures? 730 bhp, 950 Nm of torque and 370 m/h top speed!

Those numbers alone are enough reason for you to start thinking of ways how to raise 279,000.00 Euro asking price for this beast. Even the rather dull exterior, gold paint job and the pointless stripe won’t be able to put you off.

RUF 911s have always been very interesting, but they’re not cars for posers. If you want a tuned Porsche just for showing off, go get a Hamann. RUF cars are for keen drivers who are capable of manhandling these untamed monsters which to be honest feel more at home on the race tracks than public roads! You make the slightest mistake, it’ll kill you.

Check out the car’s technical specs for some more nerdilicious facts:

Range Rover Evoque Wireframe Art

Posted: 05 Mar 2011 08:21 AM PST

Range Rover has shown the new Evoque at a number of events last year so to make it interesting for visitors at the Geneva Motor Show they unveiled a 3D wireframe art installation of the car by London artist Benedict Radcliff.

They had made a few other wireframe art Evoques before at last year’s Paris Motor Show, so it’s not a new thing but it shows all the exterior and interior features of the car. These components are suspended within a 3D wireframe box, creating a life size wireframe representation of the car that as well as fitting together, can also be deconstructed to form individual stand alone pieces of art.

Benedict has played a central role in creating the wireframe concept for Land Rover, advising on the creation of the sculptures, which have been showcased in cities worldwide.

He said “The traditional concept of the wireframe created a huge buzz in 2010 but this is the perfect opportunity to dig a little deeper into the intricate design detail of the Range Rover Evoque. People can’t help but get involved with the sculptures and interact with them and I can’t wait to see how the installation is received.”

In other news, Range Rover Evoque was announced ‘best production car’ in the 2010 Car Design News, Car Design of the Year awards.

Brabus G800 Widestar

Brabus G800 Widestar brabus g800 1

There is a new Brabus G-Wagen out called the G800, and it’s awesome! I mean even the G350 CDI diesel is cool, so the Brabus-tuned 800 hp version must be freezing, and indeed it is.

Presented at the Geneva Motor Show, the Brbaus G800 Widestar is an evolution of the 700 PS version revealed last year. In terms of the styling not much has changed, bu then the G-Wagen is not a car that you would want to change anyway. The only major difference is the G800 badge at the back!

Powered by Merc AMG’s magnificent V12 biturbo, this model makes 800 PS / 588 kW and a torque of 1420 Nm which as usual had to be limited to 1100 Nm because other components cannot cope with more. With that massive power at your disposal, you can hit the 100 km/h in the G800 in just 4 seconds and reach a 270 km/h top speed. It is a tank GTI.

Brabus provides a range of wheels for this car including the Monoblock E evo „PLATINUM EDITION" Design from 20 to 23-inch in size. They’ve also used Bilstein suspension components to make sure the high riding SUV is stable at high speed. As always, there’s a nice interior treatment as well which you can customize to your own specs.

The only problem with this car is the price, which is really painfully high! Think of something in the neighborhood of half a million Euro.

Chevrolet Volt European Pricing

Posted: 05 Mar 2011 07:39 AM PST

Chevrolet Volt European Pricing Chevrolet Volt

It’s getting hard understanding Chevrolet Volt’s pricing policy! In America it has a MSRP of $41,000, but some dealers take it up even 60 grand. Then in Europe it is priced at 41,950 Euro. And then there’s the Opel Ampera, the European version of the Volt which is priced at 42,900 Euro!

Of course you can’t be sure of any of those prices until you get to the showroom floor and deal with the salesmen. But be prepared to pay at least 41 thousand Euro for it in Europe. That is the minimum that going green Volt-style will cost you. If they wanted to import the Volt to Europe, why did they bother with making the Ampera! The two are a little different in terms of styling, but that’s not significant.

European Chevrolet customers will have the same unprecedented standard eight-year/160,000 km warranty as U.S. customers on the Voltec powertrain and the advanced lithium-ion battery. It is the automotive industry's longest, most comprehensive battery warranty for an electric vehicle.

"We believe Volt is the best solution on the planet today for worry-free electric driving", says Wayne Brannon, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet Europe. "Our price in Europe is based on the U.S. Volt price adjusted for transportation cost, import duties, exchange rates and homologation."

The Chevrolet Volt is designed and engineered to be the only car in the household. It is the world's first electric vehicle with extended-range capability, a four-seater that can drive between 40 and 80 km electrically with a small fuel-powered generator that sustains the battery charge to extend the range to about 600 km in total. Due to its instant torque of 368 Nm the Volt only needs nine seconds from 0-100 km/h and achieves a top speed of 161 km/h. To charge the battery all you need is a normal household 230-Volt power outlet. The charging will take between three to four hours.

Video: Ferrari FF AWD System Explained

Posted: 05 Mar 2011 07:25 AM PST

The new Ferrari FF, as I’m sure you’ve been reminded a thousand times, is the first prancing horse to have a shooting brake form and feature a Four-wheel-drive system. The fact is, the styling of the car really overshadows its technical innovations. All people care about is that it’s a hatchback Ferrari! They don’t care if it’s practical or capable off-road. But it is fascinating this new 4RM system that takes the Fezza to the terrains it’s never been on. Here’s an explanation video of Ferrari’s AWD system for those who like the nuts and bolts of it all.

Kia Motors announced the new Sportage SX Turbo, which had already been introduced in Canada, for America and other markets. Powered by the Theta II 2.0-liter Turbo GDI engine, this sporty crossover has a base price of $25,795.

For that you get the FWD base model. If you are willing to pay $27,295 then you get the AWD version which also gets – as part of the SX trim – sport-tuned suspension featuring firmer shock and strut rates for improved handling and dynamic performance over non-SX models. That said, it’ll be slightly less comfortable than models with normal suspension.

On the outside, SX models receive unique 18″ alloy wheels, a signature SX grille, dual exhaust, and special side sill moldings. Exterior updates are complemented by SX-specific interior appointments adding more refinement inside the cabin, including standard aluminum door sills and a sleek new supervision gauge cluster. Available exclusively on the Sportage SX, Orange and Blue interior color packages offer more interior color choices for potential buyers.

The Orange Color Package includes orange stitching on the steering wheel, center console, and seats coupled with orange accents on the door panels and air vents. A unique blue patterned cloth seat and blue interior accents are included as part of the Blue Color Package.

As for the engine, that 2.0 liter Turbo engine features a twin-scroll design for maximum efficiency and delivers 256 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of peak torque. It also manages 27 mpg highway. Other benefits of this twin-scroll system include more available low-end power, and reduced turbo-lag as compared to more traditional single-scroll turbo systems.

The twin-scroll design features two valve-operated exhaust gas inlets responsible for feeding exhaust flow through separate paths into the turbine. Utilizing a divided manifold, exhaust gasses from separate cylinders travel more efficiently into the turbocharger’s turbine, avoiding possible interference. The result is a system that improves efficiency and pressure distribution, lowers exhaust and cylinder temperatures, and prevents loss of exhaust energy. The quantity of the air entering each cylinder is increased, resulting in more power.

But it’s a cool tool to see how the car looks  in all the different colors they will offer at launch. The Aventador is said to be sold out already until 2012.
