Ford Fiesta European Sales Pass One Million Posted: 09 Mar 2011 10:52 AM PST Another proof that the current generation of Ford Fiesta is just what Europeans want from a hatchback! The lovely little car recently achieved the one million milestone in sales just 28 months after its market launch. Among the European countries, UK customers have snapped up almost a quarter of the new Fiesta models, with sales since launch totalling 239,742. One would imagine some of it is due to Jeremy Clarkson’s thorough test drive of the car on Top Gear! You know, the one that he raced a Corvette in a shopping mall and took part in a beach assault with royal marines to prove the Fiesta is more than capable to handle day to day tasks. The Ford Fiesta is produced in Europe in Ford’s state-of-the-art assembly plants in Cologne, Germany and Valencia, Spain. It is the most successful European-made small car sold in Europe ever, with cumulative sales totalling 14 million since the car was first launched in 1976.

Nokian Audi RS6 Breaks Bentley Ice Speed Record Posted: 09 Mar 2011 10:44 AM PST Bentley was so pleased with their recent ice speed record of 330.6 km/h that they released a special edition to celebrate it. But it is now beaten by an Audi RS6 prepared by Nokian Tires, which as you see in the picture above was a whole kilometer faster! Granted, the Audi was running on special Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7 studded tyres (255/35R20 97 T XL), but the fact that an Audi estate can reach that speed on ice is quite impressive. The record was set by Nokian Tyres’ test driver Janne Laitinen who drove 331,610 km/h (206,05 mph) on the Gulf of Bothnia in Oulu, Finland. When a car moves at a speed of 331 km/h, the car covers over 92 metres in one second. The tyres are under immense pressure at these high speeds, and their diameter can increase by 15-20 mm. As the air resistance increases, more traction is needed in order to pick up speed. Check out a video of the record breaking run below. |
Posted: 09 Mar 2011 09:40 AM PST Following the car’s debut at the Geneva Motor Show Startech released new pictures and details of their highly exclusive 2011 Jaguar XJ. Shown in black sporting a subtle, elegant body kit and 21-inch wheels, the car looks much better than the standard XJ. The new XJ has a weird kind of design which looks incredibly good from certain angles and incredibly terrible from others. Startech’s new front apron does give the car a nicer face it still looks like doosh from the side! Startech adds some other nice touches to the exterior such as the LED lights, rear diffuser, rear spoiler and new tailpipes. The aforementioned 21-inch wheels are the STARTECH Monostar J Diamond Edition set with 255/35 ZR 21 at front and 295/30 ZR 21 at the back. Th highlight of this package however is the interior where it’s designed to rival business-class jets. Apart form the usual luxury items like leather and Alcantara or amazing wood trims, as well as heated seats that massage you as you go along, you also get lots of new high-tech stuff. The chief among the techy features are the Apple iPads mounted on the back of the front seats for the rear passenger which are treated with a seamless internet connection to take care of business or just enjoy themselves throughout the journey.

Posted: 09 Mar 2011 09:22 AM PST Volvo Announced the base price for the 2011 C30 Sports-coupe in the British market and it’s £14,995. For that you get the C30 ES 2.0 petrol powered version with 145 PS. The car can also be had with the 2.0 petrol to the T5 (230PS) and D2 (115PS) plus the D4 (177PS). The C30 also comes with varying levels of specification from the ES to the SE Lux, including the sports derived R-Design trim and Congestion Charge beating DRIVe fuel economy range producing just 99g/km of CO2. That starting price makes the Volvo C30 a good value for money considering its styling appeal, great quality and safety plus the decent amount of standard features you get with the car. Those standard features include electronic climate control, 16″ alloys, leather steering wheel and gearlever, Volvo’s stability system (DSTC), power windows, information centre, floor mats, CD player with auxiliary input and passenger airbag cut-off switch. On the options list you find items like styling kits, portable navigation systems and engine performance upgrades via Volvo’s partnership with Polestar. |
FAB Design Mercedes SLS Gulfstream Posted: 09 Mar 2011 09:12 AM PST You might know that even before this car was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, it was offered by Alain Class Motors in UAE for sale! The Mercedes SLS AMG Gulfstream is apparently designed to appeal most of all to the Arabs. So it is hugely extravagant. They’ve added a remarkable amount of width to the car with massively flared arches, chunky side skirts, and totally revised bumpers plus a couple of new air vents in differen places such as fenders, door sills, bonnet, an air scoop on the roof and below the taillights even! To cope with the incredible look, FAB Design has also tuned the engine from 570 PS to 620 PS with 690 Nm of torque which gives the car a 0 to 100 time of 3.8 seconds and top speed of 325 km/h. The car also gets a new exhausts system for an even deeper noise, which sounds like overkill really since the standard SLS has one of the finest soundtracks in the world! Inside the cabin you get a two tone leather upholstery and trimming with carbon fiber accents. This particular car uses lac and white theme but any other combination is possible.

Posted: 09 Mar 2011 08:53 AM PST Those into tuning are for sure familiar with Sported SPR packages for Porsche 911. This is the latest iteration called the SPR1 FL based on the 2011 911 Turbo and it offers 858 hp! This offers the same sort of power as their other tuned Porsche revealed at Geneva Motor Show based on the Porsche 911 GT2 RS. At 858 hp and 880 Nm of torque this missile can accelerate form 0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds flat and can reach a top speed of 380 km/h. That insane performance really overshadows the Sportec GT2 RS and make it look kinda pointless. To get this power out of 911′s rather small 3.6 liter Flat-Six engine, Sportec has implemented deep modifications like high flow intakes and injectors which are doubled for each cylinder, plus titanium connecting rods, monster intercoolers, and high performance active exhaust system. The Sportec FL1 also benefits from some visual tweaks such as revised bumpers and buffed up fenders to accommodate big wheels and tires. |
Shayton Equilibrium – Another Veyron Wannabe? Posted: 09 Mar 2011 12:55 AM PST We had supercars form Sweden and from Denmark. Now Slovenia wants a piece of action too with this, the Shayton Equilibrium. There’s no denying that the Shayton looks good. The numbers they claim are also quite remarkable. They say the car’s carbon-titanium structure and body panels result in a weight of just 1,200 kg, which in combination with the 1084 bhp V12 engine (from an unknown source) will enable the car to reach top speed of over 400 km/h with 0 to 100 km/h in 3.1 seconds. That is the Veyron territory and the only car that managed to enter that was the American SSC. But as Dagger proved before with their GT, it is wasy claiming things but quite a bit harder actually doing those things! Specially when you are an unknown Slovenian company. But there’s a first time for everything, right?! As for the design, it seems they’ve put the Enzo, Koenigsseg CCX and the Zonda in ja and then shaked it real hard to arrive at this! The car also has a wierd name, Shayton, which means falcon in the Sioux language and devil in Pesian and Arabic. Equilibrium is also no good, but better than Koenigsseg anyway! It seems to be another wishlist by an optimistic car maker who wants to seat with the big boys. If they got around making it, then good. If they couldn’t, we just got some cool renderings to look at:

Posted: 09 Mar 2011 12:38 AM PST Here’s a new extended trailer for the car lover’s favorite animation, Cars 2. Set for release in the UK on July 22, 2011 in 3D format, the new installment features more of what made the first film so popular. Only this time it’s better thanks to the incredible 3D graphics that makes it so appealing to the eye regardless of the story. The story is fine too, as the Lightning McQueen and his best friend, Mater, travel the globe taking part in the World Grand Prix, facing a number of challenges along the way.

Veritas RSIII Hybrid Claims To Be The Fastest Posted: 09 Mar 2011 12:29 AM PST For those of you who don’t know, Vertias is a German bespoke sportscar maker, something like Caterham. They just announced a hybrid version of their RSIII which at 205 mph is currently the fastest plug-in hybrid in the world. The Hybrid gets the same BMW M5 V1 engine that churns out 507 hp, but it also gets a 100 hp electric motor that powers the front wheels. So you get a 600 hp all-wheel-drive car that goes from zero to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and can reach a 205 mph. This of course is not yet a production model and remains a prototype, but the technology in this car is quite fascinating. It features Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) which turns the wasted energy of braking into electricity to charge the batteries. It can also drive 31 miles on electric power alone in which case it’s a front wheel drive zero-emission car. Veritas has plans to launch a coupe and an all-electric version of the RS by 2013. |
Video: 2012 Mercedes SLK “Barefoot” Commercial Posted: 09 Mar 2011 12:17 AM PST Mercedes gets all deep with the new commercial they’ve made for the 2012 SLK. This ad boasts the car’s great driving characteristics which puts it in a very close relationship to the road. We’re sure that’s true, since the SLK features the very latest high-tech stuff that makes it a driver’s car specially with the 350 V6 petrol engine. But again, our beef with this car is about its looks. That kinda spoils the good driving experience. It’s like having a wife with an ugly face but a rockin’ body. Some people don’t mind it, but we like the package to be complete! |
Video: Lamborghini Aventador Revs It Up! Posted: 09 Mar 2011 12:09 AM PST The first real life video of the new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 hit the web. It just features the car’s cold start and some revs, plus some footage of the graphical instrument panel, but that’s enough for you to believe in the Aventador’s awesomeness. As the spotter points out, the car sound much nicer in person than what you hear in this iPhone video, and that the rev limiter is at 6K when the car is cold, but rises to 8 and half when it warms up. Now we just need some driving footage of the Lambo Aventa! |
Lamborghini Confirms Aventador Sold Out Posted: 09 Mar 2011 12:02 AM PST Lamborghini, boasting the remarkable growth in sales in 2011, announced that more than 12 months' production of the new Aventador LP700-4 is already sold out. That means if you want one at MSRP, you have to be quick putting your name down and reserve a place in the waiting list. Or you can wait fo rthe first deliveries to hit the market and obtain the car from dealers who have ordered a bunch, at a big premium over the base price! They also reckon that the incredible performance will also continue this year and in 2012 as the demand for their high-end supercars is on the rise. Lamborghini has already sold more than 12 months' production of its new V12 model, deliveries of which will start in the second half of 2011. Lamborghini will also commence deliveries this spring of its Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante. The Performante comes as the open version of the Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera, thus completing a rich range which also comprises the Gallardo LP 560-4 coupe, the Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder and the Gallardo LP 550-2 coupe. Even through the worldwide recession and the setbacks in traditional markets, the USA remained the major market for Lamborghini, leading the traditional European markets. 2011 will see a recovery in sales for both the USA and Europe with continuing increases in Asia thanks to a sustained strong economic environment and the launch of the new models. China is also an expanding market for Lamborghini. In 2010 they enjoyed a 150% growth in sales in that market over 2009.

FAB Design Porsche Cayenne 2011 Posted: 08 Mar 2011 11:52 PM PST Just as the Geneva Motor Show comes to an end, FAB Design releases their nice new kit for the 2011 Porsche Cayenne. Well, it might not be the most elegant tuned Cayenne out there, but it is certainly one of the boldest. What they’ve done to the Cayenne is actually more of a facelift than just a styling kit. You get a whole new face with a massive bumper that incorporates a chin spoiler, fog and LED lights, then a new sporty bonnet. Looking at the sides of the car you realize that it is much wider than the standard car thanks to the massively flared arches and the new side skirts. Going around the back again you will see a new bumper, neatly designed diffuser and tailpipes as well as a roof spoiler. We’re not digging what they’ve done to the rear lights. They look silly. Fab Design’s wheels of choice fir this car are the 22 inch alloys finished in matte black. Based in the Cayenne turbo this car also gets a subtle engine upgrade which offers 50 more hp, now up to 550 hp and 800 Nm of torque. An interior package with lots of carbon fiber parts, aluminum, and leather finishes off the package.

Posted: 08 Mar 2011 11:37 PM PST The film that every petrolhead around the globe is eagerly waiting for this year is of course the new installment of the Fast and the Furious known as the Fast Five. This new trailer shows more of what this film is all about, nice girls, even nicer cars, lots of guns and muscle. That to be honest is what most of us like to see in movies! Just in case you don’t know, here’s the cast for Fast Five: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Elsa Pataky, and Ludacris. |
