Audi A1 receives maximum ABT POWER Posted: 21 Jun 2011 01:11 PM PDT Compact, convenient and a “complete ABT” – that’s the A1. All the more so in its most sporty form: with the latest engine (1.4 TFSI) the small car offers 210 HP or 154 kW. This makes the ABT A1 a genuine sports car, which cannot and does not want to deny its closeness to motorsport, as Hans-Jurgen Abt stresses: “Even the series standard version of the car is a lot of fun in particular on winding roads – and it is precisely for this reason that we have focused on providing extra power. The performance improvement increases the car’s agility and fits its driving characteristics perfectly.” The General Manager of the world’s largest tuner of vehicles from the Volkswagen Group knows what makes a sporty car: “It doesn’t just need to have good throttle response, but the handling has to be right too. You should always look forward to your next trip with the A1″, clarifies Hans-Jurgen Abt. The ABT A1 is not just a “cornering beast”, but is also at home on long motorway journeys. With a top speed of nearly 240 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h of 6.6 seconds, the compact sports car is quick enough for every situation. Its internal “premium values” already make it a suitable travel vehicle, but now it also has real ABT POWER. All ABT A1s are of course bold, fresh and agile – even the cool “ABT POWER Dwarf”, as Hans-Jurgen Abt lovingly calls the latest, most powerful version. And it goes without saying that the popular design versions are available for this A1: ALOHA, the “cool beach boy”, KLECKS, the casual splash of color for the urban lifestyle and HIGH VOLTAGE, the “bad boy” which is always fully charged. Hans-Jurgen Abt recommends the new ABT DR alloy in 18 inch or the Z Titan wheel, which is available in 17 or 18 inch, for this car. Both are of course also available in combination with fitting sports tires. The ABT Double-pipe sports rear muffler rounds everything off visually and acoustically, while the ABT Springs also help to exploit the potential of the powerful A1. Three Volkswagen Golf24′s to tackle 2011 Nurburgring 24 Hour Posted: 21 Jun 2011 10:00 AM PDT Days away from the start of the 39th running of the Nurburgring 24 Hour, Volkswagen gives us a glimpse of the three factory 450-hp Golf24′s that will race this weekend. We’ve not been told otherwise but VW is stating 450hp, which is 10hp more than the 440hp that has been racing. We’ve covered the Golf24 extensively as it is truly one of the greats. Powered by a 450-hp 2.5l turbo engine, drivers will control the AWD beast with paddle shifts on a 6-speed sequential gearbox. Just think of all the manual lovers out there and DSG haters… The Golf24 has been running in the VLN Series this year with both success and misfortune.
Since it’s introduction the Golf24 has featured “35th Anniversary” livery in celebration of the GTI’s 35th birthday. Volkswagen would love a win but a top ten finish is very likely.
We’ve seen from past efforts, the Volkswagen Scirocco GT24-CNG and Scirocco R (petrol) were very successful at the 24 hour race in 2009-10. Speaking of the Scirocco, Volkswagen will enter two GT24-CNG’s in this years event. Here is the list of drivers that will take part in the race. DTM: A brief interview with Audi’s Tom Kristensen Posted: 21 Jun 2011 08:50 AM PDT The race at Lausitz was full of action with many changes in positions. How did you experience your return to the DTM? I had a very good start and was running on the outside line. At that time I could have already been behind a Mercedes and Martin Tomczyk. But I was careful because I saw ‘Eki’ in my mirrors. The strategy was perfect; only the last pit stop was a bit long. That’s why I dropped behind Jamie Green. That could have still become interesting because a few cars were passing me. Nevertheless, I ultimately finished in the position that I started into the race on. So it wasn’t a mistake to agree to run at a single race without any possibility of testing? No, not at all. The race was good fun and I brought ‘Rocky’s’ car back in one piece. When he returns, he and his mechanics will probably be happy about that. Maybe people will look back on this weekend and hopefully say that there was a certain justification in letting the old Dane drive again. I would certainly be happy if that were the case. You immediately scored two points. Today, did you regret having quit the DTM at the end of 2009? No, to be honest, I didn’t. The DTM is a fantastic series but my heart belongs to the sports cars. I have a large family and am not the youngest any more. Combining the PR work for Audi with the sports car races is perfect. I very much enjoy watching the DTM from my couch. And today I congratulated Filipe (Albuquerque) on scoring his first point. I will always remember that I was still running in front of him when he finished in the points for the first time… Related posts: |
Le Mans winning Audi R18 TDI tours Ingolstadt plant Posted: 21 Jun 2011 08:20 AM PDT This morning, Audi employees were treated to the sights and stealth like sounds of the Le Mans winning no2 Audi R18 TDI. As the R18 TDI circled around the plant, Marcel Fassler, Andre Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer were in A5 Cabriolets behind “Red Sonja”, waving to the crowd and later signing autographs. Just over a week ago, Audi Motorsport had an unbelievable 24 Hours of Le Mans. Drama started when Allan McNish was touched by a GT car, went straight off and into the tire barrier, destroying the no3 Audi R18 TDI. McNish walked away due to the incredible safety of the car. (Video) Mike Rockenfeller would also fall victim to another GT car tapping him and sending his R18 TDI into a wall, completely destroying it as well. Rockenfeller, last years 24 Hour winner was able to get out and walk away. (Video) Audi was down to one car and battling a strong Peugeot 4 car effort.
