Mercedes GP Formula 1 Art Goes On Display mercedes f1 art 1

Mercedes GP Petronas unveiled the View Suspended II, a deconstructed art form of their Formula 1 car, at Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey so everybody can go and take a look at this awesome mechanical art.

The View Suspend F1 Car is like one of those amazing videos where each bit floats about in space until it finds its place in the machine to create the final product! Well, it’s like a snapshot of that but still pretty cool. The details of this art thingy is just bewildering, if you look close they’ve even featured the nuts and bolts. The display also adds to the Grand Prix screening events scheduled for 2011.

Scroll down for more details on the Mercedes GP View Suspend II

The display is a breathtaking work of art and brings a whole new perspective to literally everything that goes into creating a modern day Formula 1™ car.  The MERCEDES GP PETRONAS branded car comprises over 3200 precision engineered components that have been meticulously arranged by Dutch artist Paul Veroude.  The result is a striking monument to the advanced-technology of Formula 1™ that dramatically deconstructs the racing chassis to reveal its inner-most secrets.

This uniquely impressive work has enabled the chassis' detailed systems and components to become visible, from the large bodywork items such as the engine cover and floor to the minutiae of the powertrain such as gear ratios and clutch plates.  Every piece is suspended individually, hung by wire from a purpose-made frame.  The chassis and its associated components were all supplied by the MERCEDES GP PETRONAS Formula One Team, with the engine supplied by Mercedes-Benz HighPerformanceEngines.

The structure combines engineering and sculpture.  As a picture it would be attractive, but as a physical entity in the form of View Suspended II it displays a Formula 1™ car in the most visually stunning, innovative and exciting way imaginable.

Each of the 3,200 parts on display has been purpose-designed for Formula 1™ racing. Comprising over 90,000 man hours of design time, over 200,000 man hours of manufacturing and utilising carbon fibre, titanium, aluminium and magnesium, a Formula 1™ car weighs little more than 600 kgs.  85% of the volume of the car is made from carbon fibre which accounts for only 30% of the cars mass. The chassis, floor and almost all of the car's aerodynamic surfaces are manufactured from carbon fibre.  Aerodynamics has been big news in Formula 1™ ever since the late 1970s and the concept of 'ground effect' – where the entire under-body of the cars acts like an upside down aircraft wing, literally sucking the car into the ground – was developed. Today, 'ground effect' is limited through the use of the 'mandatory' plank seen suspended towards the bottom of View Suspended II. Yet aerodynamic development remains critically important absorbing around 15% of the team's car development budget.

Nick Fry, CEO, MERCEDES GP PETRONAS commented: "It is fantastic to see View Suspended II here at Mercedes-Benz World.  Formula 1™ is a sport watched by over 580 million people worldwide annually, so to be able to see a racing car in this way is something very special and a unique look at the heart of the sport."

View Suspended II is an art form, and not intended to be an exact replica of a current MERCEDES GP PETRONAS Formula 1™ car.  The racing car displayed is however entirely representative of modern-day Formula 1™ technology.

Formula1™ Exhibition

You don't need to be in a pit garage or on the starting grid to get up close to a Formula 1™ racing cars.  This exhibition that includes View Suspended II enables guests stand next to a number of race machines, all powered by Mercedes-Benz HighPerformanceEngines.  The cars on display are the 2010 season MERCEDES GP PETRONAS car driven by Nico Rosberg and former World Champion Michael Schumacher who made his return to the grid after three years, the 2009 Force India driven by Adrian Sutil and Giancarlo Fisichella, the 2007 Vodafone McLaren Mercedes car driven by Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso and Mika Hakkinen's 1999 championship winning Team McLaren Mercedes car.

The exhibition also shows the highly successful Mercedes-Benz FO108W HighPerformanceEngine.  The 2.4 litre V8 engine revs at a legislated 18,000rpm with a maximum output of 750PS.  In 2009 this engine model achieved 10 race wins across the three teams powered by Mercedes-Benz.

Vizualtech E-Type Growler To Enter Limited Production

Vizualtech E Type Growler To Enter Limited Production growler e 1

You sure remember the Vizualtech’s virtual modern-day Jaguar E-Type, which they call the Growler. Apparently they’ve received so many positive feedback that they decided to make it, although in a strictly limited run.

The Growler design study was too good to remain inside a computer forever. It is a great decision to put it into production and there are many people ready to pay big money for it. Plus, it’s not going to be a terribly hard job for them to make this car since it is based on the Jaguar XKR.

The body of course will entirely handmade out of composite materials and will be bolted to a carbon fiber chassis. The engine and drive-train come straight form the XKR. The Supercharged V8 will be tweaked to develop 600 bhp.

As for the price, since it’s a bespoke sportscar you can be sure. If they make only a few it could cost in the neighborhood of a million dollar! If they receive many orders then they might contract a coachbuilder to make it. In that case the price could shrink to half.

Mazda6 Recalled Because Of Spiders!

Mazda6 Recalled Because Of Spiders! Mazda 6

Mazda issued a recall for 52,000 units of 2009 and 2010 Mazda6 models in America due to a very strange reason. According to NHTSA’s report, Mazda6′s evaporative canister vent line is a perfect place for a certain species of spider. Who knew!

Now, if the spider gets in there and weave a web, that’ll result in a clogged vent and that will cause the fuel pressure to go excessively negative. Long story short that may eventually cause the fuel tank to crack, which means fuel leakage and increased risk of fire.

The dealers will inspect the vent, kill every spider they find, clean it up and install a spring that prevents other spiders from entering the vent! We had recalls for some weird problems before, but this one tops the list.

NHTSA Report:

Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY

Potential Number of Units Affected: 52,000

Summary:
MAZDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 MAZDA6 VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM APRIL 8, 2008, THROUGH FEBRUARY 8, 2010. A CERTAIN TYPE OF SPIDER MAY WEAVE A WEB IN THE EVAPORATIVE CANISTER VENT LINE AND THIS MAY CAUSE A RESTRICTION IN THE LINE. IF THIS OCCURS, THE FUEL TANK PRESSURE MAY BECOME EXCESSIVELY NEGATIVE WHEN THE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM WORKS TO PURGE THE VAPORS FROM THE CANISTER.

Consequence:
AS THE CANISTER IS PURGED REPEATEDLY DURING NORMAL OPERATION, THE STRESS ON THE FUEL TANK MAY EVENTUALLY RESULT IN A CRACK, POTENTIALLY LEADING TO FUEL LEAKAGE AD AN INCREASED RISK OF FIRE.

Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND CLEAN UP THE CANISTER VENT LIN, AND INSTALL A SPRING TO PREVENT THIS TYPE OF SPIDER FROM ENTERING THE VENT LINE. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE MARCH 25, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MAZDA CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AT 1-800-222-5500.

BMW M Boss Talks M5 In New Teaser Video

Posted: 04 Mar 2011 03:11 AM PST

Following the first rather pointless teaser video of the new BMW M5, the company released an extended version of that video showing a prototype of the car playing around in the snow. This footage also includes comments from Dr. Kay Segler, president of BMW M GmbH who tries to explain what an M5 is all about. It is a normal and comfortable business sedan, that at the touch of a button turns into a full-blooded sportscar. It’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing!

Pogea Racing Audi A-Force One

Pogea Racing Audi A Force One A Force One 1

The new Audi A1 tuning kit by Pogea Racing that offers two stages of power upgrade and some nice visual tweaks is a very good package. Apart from it’s name which is A-Force One! Apparently it’s inspired by U.S. Prezzie’s Air Force One, but why?!

The cute little Audi A1 gets a fresh set of wheels from Pogea Racing. These are 18-inch OZ Racing Alleggerita HLT wheels wrapped in Continental ET35 Sport Contact 3 tires. They look good inside the fenders thanks to the KW coilover suspension kit that lowers the car. You might also catch a glimpse of the Brembo braking package inside the rims. That’s a nice touch.

Pogea has picked the base Audi A1 1.4 TSI model to implement their power upgrade program. This turbocharged unit gets a healthy 30 PS more power up to 156 PS and 260 Nm of torque with the stage I kit. Also part of the ECU revisions that results in this power, is the omission of the top speed limiter which means the car can go do 245 km/h.

A sport exhaust system with better noise an bigger tailpipes is also included.
